The 3 ancient and magnificent cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Sigiriya were inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1982 followed by Galle, Kandy, and the Sinharaja Forest Reserve in 1988. The Golden Temple of Dambulla in 1991 and finally the Central highlands were added in 2010. These places of historical and natural significance are not to be missed for any visitor to Sri Lanka. Welcome to Sri Lanka, as you set foot on this beautiful island, you'll be met by a Chauffeur Guide of Hayleys Tours and transported in an air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel in Negombo. Overnight stay at Villa Hundira in a standard room on a bed & breakfast basis. Day 2: Airport/ Negombo
After breakfast, proceed to Kandalama. Check in to your property Heritance Kandalama, which is a great masterpiece of Geoffrey Bawa. Early Morning enjoys a Hot Air Balloon ride. Flying over the jungle you may see not only the wondrous sights from the air starting from Kandalama, Dambulla in the Cultural Triangle but also elephants roaming freely, variety of birds, wildlife, water buffaloes standing in the paddy fields and monkeys swinging from the trees. Thereafter, Climb the Pidurangala Rock which gives you the best viewing spot of Sigiriya Rock. Pidurangala is a popular spot for sunrise as you can enjoy 360-degree views of not only the valleys but also Sigiriya Rock. Today, you will be taken on a village tour witnessing the Indigenous community of Sri Lanka, who in other words is called Veddas or People of the Forest exploring more about their fascinating lifestyle of a forest dweller and how they have adapted to the changing times. You may also experience the traditional rituals of Veddas which are Bow and Arrow shooting, Kiri Koraha dance (Traditional dance), Lighting the fire with “Kahanda” Stones and much more. Early Morning, you will be leaving to the Sorabora lake to witness the sunrise over the horizon of the lake. Thereafter, take a relaxing boat ride to the local fish market at the end of the lake and visit a local village nearby to get hands-on experience of milking a cow on completion, cycle your way through the scenic streets of Mahiyangana and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Today, you will enjoy an authentic Sri Lankan lunch at the Rathna Ella village which has been prepared using recipes passed down from generation to generation. Thereafter, you will join the local villagers in learning the secrets of the trade and make your own pottery souvenir, to take home. On completion, embark on a hike from the Rathna Ella village to witness the majestic Kaluwa Wetuna Ella waterfall. After breakfast, you will be visiting the Millennium Elephant Foundation where you can have an up-close experience with the gentle giants. Thereafter, drive to Nanuoya and board the train to Haputale which is considered to be the most scenic train journey. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. After breakfast, you will be visiting the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is one of 18 turtle hatcheries and the centre functions mainly as a hatchery and makes huge effort to increase the rate of hatching and the survival of baby turtles in their initial stages. Thereafter, visit the famous Galle Dutch Fort and the Lighthouse and spend the rest of the day at leisure. After breakfast, you will proceed to Colombo. Thereafter, you will be taken on a city tour of Colombo where you will spend the afternoon visiting the Arcade – Independence Square, the Gangaramaya Temple, and the National Museum concluding your day with a shopping experience. Today after breakfast you will be transferred to the Colombo Airport via Expressway to catch your flight back home accompanied with all the happy memories of the tropical isle; Sri Lanka is once known as TAPROBANE!! Exclusions:
